A Thing of the Gods-Chapter 1

“Move along!” Her older sister yelled, “Or you will be late to receive your name!” Anii sped up a little, but she still dawdled looking at the flowers and wishing to be by her fire. She lived under the care of her Nonnie in the woman’s camp led by the Chief's wife. By tradition girls and boys were not to grow up together for there may be unforeseen attachments and arrangements, so painstakingly made, would be broken. Love was not taken in to account, and it was found that if neither had met one of the other gender an arrangement would go over better.  When a child turns to the age of 14 summers they are named then taken to meet their spouse, all except four.
